**Nothing but Your Faith, and Nobody but God!**
**Scripture Reading:** Matthew 17:20 – “He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’” (NIV)
In this passage from Matthew 17:20, Jesus Christ tells His disciples that if they had faith as small as a mustard seed, they could command a mountain to move, and it would. For many of us, we are facing seemingly impossible situations. We may have tried to make lifestyle changes to draw us closer to God but feel stuck. For every step forward we take, a challenge seems to push us two steps back.
If this resonates with you, know that the only thing standing between you and defeat is your faith in God—nothing but your faith, and nobody but God can sustain you. Your faith can help you see the glass as half full instead of half empty. Nobody but God can provide the water to fill that glass. Faith is the foundation of our survival; without it, we risk losing the battle. If you lose your faith, you lose your will to live, win, and persevere.
Consider the story of Gideon in Judges 6:11-12. “The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, ‘The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.’”
Gideon, the youngest son of Joash, was chosen by God during a time of oppression by the Midianites, who had been attacking the Israelites for seven years. While hiding to thresh wheat, Gideon questioned the angel, asking, “Sir, if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened? Where are all the miracles our ancestors told us about? Didn’t they say, ‘The Lord brought us up out of Egypt’? But now the Lord has abandoned us and handed us over to the Midianites.”
In his moment of doubt, Gideon questioned not only God’s presence but also his abilities, lamenting, “How can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”
The prolonged pressure and stress from his circumstances led Gideon to doubt. Sometimes, the length of our unfavorable situations can overshadow our awareness of who we are and who we are. God was with us before we faced our challenges and remains with us during them. He sees the potential within us, even when we cannot.
It is at this critical juncture where nothing but your faith and nobody but God can save you. In the darkest times, trust in your faith and God. Despite his doubts, Gideon sought a sign from God. God granted him a sign and demonstrated that to achieve victory, is indeed about having faith and relying on Him. Interestingly, God reduced Gideon’s army from 32,000 to just 300, showing that a new beginning doesn’t require overwhelming numbers. It requires one honest plea for a clean heart and a right spirit.
